Is A Goldendoodle Right For Me?

Goldendoodles love people and also get along great with other pets, and they tend to be patient and gentle with young children — making them a fantastic choice for families.

They are far too friendly to make good guard dogs or watchdogs and would more likely try to befriend a stranger than warn them off. As highly social dogs, they need to be with their family and wouldn’t do well as outside dogs or in homes where they’d be left alone for long periods of time, which could cause them to develop separation anxiety.

Goldendoodle Sizes

Goldendoodles are found in three sizes: miniature, medium and standard. Each size category is measured at the point of a doodle’s full maturation. An accurate goldendoodle size comparison should consider height, weight and personality traits associated with each size.

A mini Goldendoodle measures 17 inches or less and typically weighs between 25 and 35 pounds. Mini goldendoodles are popular among dog owners who travel often and require a pet that’s easy to take along. A mini Goldendoodle size is also ideal for smaller living spaces.

Mini goldendoodles are the quirkier representations of this breed. They tend to have personalities that far outweigh their actual size, with almost human-like traits regarding likes and dislikes.

Medium Goldendoodles measure between 17 and 21 inches and typically weigh between 35 and 50 pounds. The medium Goldendoodle is an optimal size for a working or family dog. While the mini Goldendoodle is a good travel partner, so is the medium-sized Goldendoodle. One of the reasons medium Goldendoodles travel so well is that they have an adequate center of gravity. As such, they enjoy long car rides more than mini Goldendoodles.

Medium Goldendoodles are easy to walk on a leash, enjoy playing outdoors and can still fit pretty easily in a smaller living space. While they weigh more than a mini Goldendoodle, it’s still reasonably easy to pick up a medium Goldendoodle if need be. This means owners looking for lap love from their doodle can still get it with this larger-sized dog.

​The standard Goldendoodle size is anything over 21 inches weighing 51 pounds or more. There’s typically not much of a weight difference between male and female doodles, though this depends on the weight and height of the specific parents. The standard doodle is the most laid-back of the three sizes and may be more content with long naps after bouts of play.

An F1 Goldendoodle is considered a first generation Golden Retriever to Poodle cross (50% Poodle / 50% English Golden Retriever)

F1B English Teddybear Goldendoodle =
F1 Goldendoodle X Poodle (75% Poodle / 25% English Golden Retriever) = This is Goldendoodle bred back to Poodle.. Most F1B’s Are Non-Shedders, Most Allergy friendly​

F2 English Teddybear Goldendoodle =
F1 Goldendoodle X F1 Goldendoodle (50% Golden /50% Poodle) = With this combination you get the same percentage of Golden and Poodle mix as you would with an F1 Goldendoodle. Some will shed a little to none , others a bit more, but nothing like a Golden. Allergy Friendly.

F3 Multi-Gen English Teddybear Goldendoodle =
F1B Goldendoodle X F1B Goldendoodle (75% Poodle / 25% Golden Retriever) = The Most Curly Ones Usually Do Not Shed Like An F1B, Straighter one will Shed like an F1.

TEXTURES

Goldendoodles have 4 main coat types: flat, straight, wavy, or curly.

THE FLAT COAT

Also called the “improper coat,” which was previously described, and the dog does not have furnishings.

​WAVY COAT

When a Goldendoodle gets one curl gene from one parent and a non-curl gene from the other, they will have a wavy coat.

CURLY COAT

Curly coats present themselves when each parent of the Goldendoodle throws a curl gene.
